Block stitch crochet dishcloths in blue and purple with kitchen towels

Pin it for later.

If you made my block stitch kitchen towel already, this dishcloth crochet pattern should be a breeze. It uses the same stitch and will help you make a matching pair for your kitchen. You can even make two of these, join them with a border around and turn it into a pot holder. That would be triple the fun, right?

How to Crochet a Dishcloth

Materials

1. Worsted weight cotton yarn
2. Hook H (5mm)
3. Yarn needle to weave in the tails

Finished Size

8X 8 inches

Yardage

50 Yards of the main color

Gauge

5 block stitches in 4 inches

Stitch Abbreviations

sc- single crochet
dc- double crochet
ch-chain

With H hook and cream color yarn, ch 31. The initial chain is a multiple of 3+1.

Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 sc in next ch, *(ch 2, skip 2 chains, 1 sc in next), repeat from * until 1 st is left, 1 sc in last ch while picking up the new color, purple. Do not fasten off the cream yarn, just drop it to pick up later, turn.——–9 ch loops

At end of row, Take your hook out of the last loop and place a marker in that loop

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), 3 dc in each ch-2 space across to end, skip next st, 1 dc in last st. Take your hook out of the last loop and place a marker in that loop to ensure that your work doesn’t unravel. Do not turn.—–29 dc

Insert your hook through the top of beginning ch-3 of the previous row

Row 3: This row is worked on the same side as the previous row by picking up the cream yarn that we dropped on the right edge of your work. Insert your hook through the top of beginning ch-3 of the previous row and pull through the cream colored yarn, ch 1 with the yarn joined.

Ch 1 and sc on top of beginning chain 3

1 sc on top of beginning ch-3 in same place where you worked the beginning ch 1, 1 sc in the adjacent space between beginning ch-3 and next dc, *(ch 2, skip 3 dc, 1 sc in next space between the 3dc groups), repeat from * across, 1 sc in last marked st while joining the purple color back. To join the purple color back, you start working your sc and once you have 2 loops left on your hook, take out the marker and pull the purple loop through (shown below). Turn.-—–9 loops

Pull through the purple yarn when you have 2 loops left on your hook

Repeat rounds 2 and 3 eight more times to end in a Row 3 repeat. Fasten off the cream color after you pick up the purple loop.

Crocheting a Border Around the Dishcloth

Ch 1 with the purple color you just joined and work across the row ends, 1 sc in the same corner as ch 1, 3 sc in the space under each beginning ch-3 until you reach the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, pivot your work to work across the next edge, 3 sc in each ch-2 space across, 3 sc in the corner, 3 sc in the space under each beginning ch-3 to next corner, 3 sc in the corner,  3 sc in each ch-2 space across, 2 sc in the corner, sl st to the first sc. Fasten off.
