1.5 Hour Chunky Scarf With Video, Crochet a Scarf Quickly

Share the Love!

What is the shortest time you have taken to crochet a scarf? I crocheted this gorgeous chunky scarf in just under an hour and a half and I am truly excited about how it turned out.

The ease of making it along with how little time it takes makes it the perfect project for any last-minute Christmas gifts or for stocking up your craft fair inventory.

Finished golden color scarf wrapped on a mannequin

I used this gorgeous faded Mustard color from Loops and Threads Cozy wool and absolutely loved it. Mustard is my favorite color for winter followed by gray. It is a size 6 bulky yarn that helps you make a super fast crochet scarf.

Ends of the scarf with fur pom poms

When I first attached the fur pom poms my daughter said she has never seen fur pom poms on a scarf before, but when I finished the scarf, she simply loved it. I think it adds a nice finishing touch and compliments the color perfectly.

I made the pom poms from fur fabric and it was so much cheaper. I have a tutorial on my blog here if you would like to make some for yourself.

Note: A video tutorial is included at the end of the blog post for visual learners.

Leave a 15-inch tail and ch 13 to start. If you want to make your scarf wider, you can chain any multiple of 3+1. If you plan to add pom poms, a narrow width works best with any super bulky yarn.

Row 1: (1 dc, ch 2, sc) into the 4th ch from hook, * sk next 2 chs, (2 dc , ch 2, 1 sc) in next ch, repeat from * to end. Turn.——-4 pattern repeats

Note: In all the following rows, the sc of the last pattern repeat is not worked into the ch-2 space but into the top of beginning ch-3. This is to make sure that the edges of your scarf stay straight and are not ragged.

Row 2: Ch 3( counts as a dc here and throughout), (1 dc, ch 2, sc) into the first ch-2 space, (2dc, ch 2, sc) in the next two ch-2 spaces, (2dc, ch 2) in the last ch-2 space, 1 sc on top of beginning ch-3. Turn.——-4 pattern repeats

Repeat Row 2 until your scarf is 62 inches long if you plan to add pom poms. If you don’t want to add pom poms, 68 inches would be a good length for a woman’s scarf. Fasten off with a 15-inch tail for cinching the ends of your crochet scarf.

Cinching the Crochet Scarf

You will use the yarn tails you left to cinch the scarf at both its ends. Thread the tail through a yarn needle. A plastic one works best.

Fold edges inside by and inch and make a running stitch along the edge

Fold both the edges inwards for about an inch as shown in the picture above, go in an out through the edge of the scarf making a running stitch.

You will work into both the layers along the folds until your needle comes out through the other side.

Pull to cinch the end and make a couple of knots to secure. Repeat on the other end of your scarf. You can watch the video below. The instructions for cinching are towards the end of the video.

Weave in any remaining tails left.

Now sew on the pom poms to the ends using a regular sewing needle and thread.

Enjoy wearing your 1.5 hour scarf and stay toasty!
