When I designed my first crochet baby sweater for girls, the Evelyn sweater, a lot of people commented that they wished I had designed one for boys. So here it is, my very first crochet baby boy sweater pattern!

The Designing Process
I wanted to combine different textures for this sweater. I was so skeptical of the diamond stitch when I made a gauge swatch. I thought it would be too much for a tiny baby sweater but once I made my first sample, I fell in love with it.
The crunch stitch used on this sweater is a modification of the regular crunch stitch that will make your work grow quicker and give it more texture. I replaced the half double crochet with double crochet stitches and avoided working into the slip stitches which can be a pain to stick your hook into.
If you have been following my designs, you must have already noticed that I love quick projects. To make this sweater work up fast, I have kept the back of the sweater plain and simple. You might also enjoy my girl’s free baby cardigan crochet pattern.
The back is worked in herringbone half double crochet stitches which look really neat compared to a regular half double crochet. The stitches seem to slant and stack closely together.
The sweater has been worked sideways to give the effect of that vertical line to this sweater. Adding the shawl collar just added a little more pizzazz to an already cute design, if I may say so myself, lol!

*It is worked with an H(5mm) hook and worsted weight(size 4 yarn).

Hi, what a lovely pattern. I have lang yards merino 200 bebe yarn. Can I use that for this sweater? Thanks.

Yes, as long as it is the same thickness and meets the gauge.

Hi there!
In Row 2, it says chain 1, SL ST into the same ST as chain 1. I’m not sure what that means? If I’m supposed to slip stitch into the chain I started with (chain 50) or slip stitch into the 1 chain I just made? I’ve never had to do that before. TYA! I’m also just learning to read pattens lol.

Nope, don't slip stitch into the chain but into the stitch at the base of the chain.

Working on the sleeves right now and my bumps are on the wrong side, I think. Does that mean I worked the entire sleeve wrong?

NO, just redo the cuff part and turn to get the bumps on the right side of your work.
