Easy Crochet Baby Blanket, 6 Hour Blanket

Share the Love!

This easy crochet baby blanket pattern is perfect for beginners. It works up in just 6 hours, how cool is that? It will be your best bet for any last minute baby shower gifts.

Easy crochet baby blanket finished in blue, coral and vanilla

When I started out designing this blanket, I was planning on making a moss stitch chevron blanket. The further I got with it, the more I realized that it looks very similar to my 5-hour crochet blanket. So I gave it a spin and came up with this design.

Designing with chunky yarn is always a challenge because it lacks stitch definition. Can you imagine how big a bobble would look in this yarn? So I made fake bobbles which are ridiculously simple to make and looks great on this yarn. The result? An easy peasy crochet baby blanket!

The base stitch used for this easy chunky crochet baby blanket is the Knit-look Herringbone half double crochet. I have included a video on how to work this stitch at the end of the blog post.

I am in love with the coral and blue combination. Do you like it? What colors will you choose for this blanket? Let me know in the comments below.

Hey! I have a question about this pattern. When doing the three rows of the blue and coral does the chain 2 at the beginning count as a hhdc like the 4th row does?

Yes, it does count as a hhdc.

Hello,

Semi new crocheter here - have only worked on single color baby beanies and hats, but thought now a good time to expand!

I love this pattern - one question, may be a silly question, but when switching colors, I have seen a couple different ways to change colors and one included working in the tail ends into the next crochet row. Do you think this would alter the appearance of the blanket if I did this, instead of waiting until the end to weave in the ends?

Thanks!

Hi Karley, I'm afraid it might show through your work. Why not try on one tail and see how you like it?

How do you weave in the ends with the K hook? The only way I have weaved in ends is to use a needle.

Just use it to pull the tail through your stitches.

Love this design! I can't believe I've never ran across the hhdc stitch before. I love how it moves the working yarn up, in the stitch, so it isn't awkward at the end of the row. I've always shied away from hdc's because of that. The fake bobbles are ingenious! Bravo for a great design! I'm using Dk. Grey and Country Blue with White bobbles. Thank you so much! I'm definitely going to check out more of your patterns!
