Stitch Explanations

Front post double crochet (fpdc): A front post double crochet is just like a normal double crochet (dc), but instead of working into the top of the stitch, you work around the post of the stitch as given below.

Yarn over, insert your hook from front to back to front again around the post of the dc specified, the post should be sitting in front of your hook now, pull up a loop to get 3 loops on your hook, (YO, pull through 2 loops)2 times- fpdc made.

Pattern Notes

1. You do not fasten off when changing colors. Simply drop the yarn and pick it up again later. The yarn will be carried along the sides of your work and will be hidden once you add the border.

2. To join the next color while finishing your last dc, start working your dc as usual, and when you have 2 loops left on your hook, YO the new color, and pull through to complete the stitch.

With blue color yarn, ch 48. You can chain any multiple of 2 to make your blanket wider.

Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (3 skipped chains count as a dc), 1 dc in each remaining st across to end, turn. (46 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), sk next dc, 1 fpdc in next dc, working along the back of the fpdc, 1 dc in the 2nd st of the current row, *(sk next dc, 1 fpdc in next dc, working along the back of the fpdc, sk 1 st after the previous dc of the current row, and work 1 dc in next st), repeat from * until just the beginning ch is left, 1 dc into the top of beginning ch-3, turn. (46 sts)

Row 3: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 sc in the first st and each st across, 1 sc on top of the beginning ch-2. (46 sc)

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), 1 fpdc in the dc between the next 2 fpdc one row below (the dc will be hidden behind the fpdc to the right, you can push it out with your fingers), working behind the fpdc you just made, 1 dc in the 2nd st of the current row, *(1 fpdc in the dc between the next 2 fpdc one row below, working behind this fpdc, sk 1 st after the previous dc of the current row, and work 1 dc in next st), repeat from * until 2 sts are left, 1 dc in the last sc while joining the white color yarn. Drop the blue yarn and turn. (46 sts)

Rows 5 & 6: Repeat Rows 3 and 4 with the white color yarn and join back the blue color yarn at the end of Row 6.

Rows 7, 8, 9, and 10: Repeat Rows 3 and 4 two times with the blue color yarn and join the white color yarn back at the end of Row 10.

Repeat Rows 5 to 10 to add more stripes to your blanket, and once you have completed 9 blue stripes, join the white color yarn while finishing the last blue stitch. Fasten off the blue yarn, and proceed to make the border with the white yarn joined.

Border

Ch 1 at the corner and distribute sc sts along the left edge of the blanket. I worked 4 sc across each blue stripe and 1 sc across each white stripe. Repeat this sequence to the next corer, 3 sc in the corner, 1 sc under each dc st on the foundation row, 3 sc in the next corner, distribute sc sts along the right edge all the way to the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, 1 sc in each st across to the last st, 3 sc in the last st, sl st to the 1st sc on the left edge of the blanket, fasten off.
