Pattern Note
While working Row 1, go under 2 loops of your foundation chain to avoid leaving holes.
Chain 173. You can chain any multiple of 7+5 to make your blanket a different width.
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sk next 2 chs, 3 dc in next ch, *(ch 3, sk next 3 chs, 1 sc in next ch, sk next 2 chs, 3 dc in next ch), repeat from * across until you end with 3 dc in the very last ch, turn. See pic 1 below. (25 repeats or 3 dc groups)
Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in first st, sk next 2 dc, 3 dc in next sc, *(ch 3, 1 sc in 3rd ch of next ch-3 loop, sk next 3 dc, 3 dc in next sc), repeat from * until you end with 3 dc in the last st, place a marker on this side of the fabric to indicate the RS and turn. (25 repeats or 3 dc groups)
Repeat Row 2 until your blanket is approximately 36″ long and you end on the RS. Do not fasten off and do not turn; proceed to make the border below.
Border Pattern
Note: All the rounds of the border are worked on the RS of the blanket.
Round 1: Ch 1 at the corner and work along the left edge, distribute sc sts across to the next corner, 3 sc in the corner.
Along the foundation chain side, work 1 sc in next ch, 1 sc under the 3 dc sts, 1 sc in next 3 chs, 1 sc under next sc, *(1 sc under the 3 dc sts, 1 sc in next 3 chs, 1 sc under next sc), repeat from * until you reach the last 3 dc, 1 sc under the 3 dc sts, 3 sc in corner.
Proceed to distribute sc stitches along the right edge to the next corner, 3 sc in next corner, now work along the last row, 1 sc in next sc , 1 sc in next 2 dc, sc2tog in next dc and ch, sc2tog in next 2 chs, hdc in next sc, *(1 sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog across next st and ch, sc2tog across next 2 chs, 1 hdc in next sc), repeat from * and after hdc in last sc, 1 sc in next dc, sc2tog in last 2 dc, 2 sc in corner, sl st to first sc, do not turn.
Round 2: ch 1, 1 sc in same st, *(1 sc in each st across to next corner, 3 sc in corner), repeat from * 3 more times, sl st to first sc, do not turn.
Note: Before starting Round 3, check the shorter edges to see if they are wider than they should be and need decreases. In my case, I only needed decreases on the last edge, so I worked 5 sc2tog stitches, spaced out randomly along that edge while working Round 3. If your edges are not wider, you don’t need to add decreases. Use your best judgment.
Round 3: ch 1, 1 sc in same st, *(1 sc in each st across to next corner, 3 sc in corner), repeat from * 2 more times, sc in each st across to next corner with a few sc2tog if needed, 3 sc in the corner, 1 sc in next 2 sts, sl st to first sc, and fasten off.
Last Round (Puff Stitch Round): Sl st to any corner st on the right side of the blanket, *(ch 3, puff st in next st, ch 1, sk next 2 sts, sl st in next), repeat from *, and when you reach near the next corner, sl st to the corner st after you make your puff st and ch 1. If you have only 1 st to skip before the corner st, just sk that one st and sl st to the corner st. Repeat all around and end with a sl st at the base of your beginning ch3. Fasten off.
Finishing
Weave in any tails left along the back side of the blanket.
