Fphdc (front post half double crochet) and bphdc (back post half double crochet): See a tutorial for front post double crochet and back post double crochet on my blog here: Front Post and Back Post Double Crochet Tutorial.
A fphdc is worked by inserting the hook in the same way as the fpdc in the above tutorial, you only have to replace the dc with a hdc st. If you are new to crochet, search YouTube for videos on these stitches.
Crochet Pattern
Pattern Notes
The cream color yarn will be attached to your blanket at all times and you will just carry it along the side of your work. The other 2 colors will be fastened off after each stripe.
With Cream color yarn, ch 57. To make the blanket wider, ch any multiple of 2 plus 3.
Row 1: 1 dc in the 4th ch from hook (3 skipped chs count as a dc), 1 dc in each ch across to end, turn.——-55 dc
Row 2: Ch 1 (counts as first sl st), * (1 dc in next st, sl st in next st), repeat from * ending last repeat with a sl st on top of beginning ch-3, pull the pink color yarn through the loop on your hook, tug the cream yarn to make the cream loop disappear, ch 1 with pink and turn your work. Just drop the cream color yarn and do not cut it off. ——-55 sts
Row 3: 1 dc in first st, *(1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next sl st), repeat from * ending last repeat with a dc into beginning ch-1 (will be squished, so don’t miss it), turn.—–55 sts
Row 4: Ch 1 (counts as first sl st), * (1 dc in next st, sl st in next st), repeat from * ending last repeat with a sl st on top of last dc, pull the dropped cream color yarn through the loop on your hook, tug the pink yarn to make the pink loop disappear, ch 1 with cream color and turn your work. Fasten off the pink color yarn. ——-55 sts
Keep repeating Rows 3 and 4 changing colors at the end of Row 4 every time. The sequence is Cream, Pink, Cream, Gray, Cream, Pink, Cream and so on.
Keep making stripes until you have completed 12 cream-colored stripes.
Border
Notes
1. Before starting the border, weave in all tails along the back of the blanket (non-textured side).
2. The ribbing is added only to 2 of the edges.
Round 1: Turn your work and work along the last cream row you just finished, ch 2, 1 hdc in each st across to last st, 3 hdc in the last st, continue along left edge and distribute 3 hdc across each stripe until you hit the next corner, 3 hdc in the corner, 1 hdc in each free loop of the foundation ch to next corner. You might have to work under the junction of 2 free loops to avoid leaving holes in your work. 3 hdc in the corner, distribute 3 hdc across each stripe on the right edge until you reach the corner where you started, 2 hdc in the corner, sl st to beginning ch-2. Do not turn.
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as a hdc) *( fphdc in next st, bphdc in next), repeat to the end of this side and fasten off.
Now we will work the same ribbing row along the foundation chain side. Sl st to the corner, ch 2, *( fphdc in next st, bphdc in next), repeat to the end of this side and fasten off.
