Gauge

Start working the toe top for your size and measure it once you have completed 9 rounds of cls. Flatten it and measure the width and height of the toe top as shown in pic 1 below. It should be approximately 4″ for sizes 5 to 8 and 4-1/2″ for sizes 9 to 12. The height of the toe top should be a little less than 4″ for all sizes.

Stitch Explanations

Insert hook under back loop only of the stitch

2. Working in the Back loops only (BLO)

1. Working in the Back Loops Only (BLO): Instead of inserting your hook under both the loops of your stitch, you will insert it only under the back loop and leave the front loop free, see the picture below.

2. hdc2tog: It is a decrease that is worked across 2 sts to join them into one. (YO and pull up a loop in the next st) twice, YO, pull through all the 5 loops on your hook.

3. hdc3tog: It is a decrease that is worked across 3 sts to join them into one. (YO and pull up a loop in the next st) three times, YO, pull through all the 7 loops on your hook.

4. sc2tog: It is a decrease that is worked across 2 sts to join them into one. Pull up a loop in the next 2 sts, YO and pull through all the 3 loops on your hook.

Pattern Notes

Sizes 5, 6, 7, and 8 are grouped together, and sizes 9, 10, 11, and 12 are grouped together. The headlines are color-coded for ease of reading.

Sizes 5, 6, 7, and 8

Note: Stitch counts are given in the order Size 5 (6, 7, 8). If there is only 1 number it pertains to all the 4 sizes.

Toe Side

Round 1: Ch 7, 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in next 4 chs, 3 hdc in last ch, pivot to work long the foundation ch side,  1 hdc in next 5 free loops of the foundation chain, 3 hdc in turning ch, sl st to 1st hdc. Do not turn.—-16 hdc

Round 2: Ch 1 ( does not count as a st), 2 hdc in next st and 2 hdc in each st across to end, sl st to first hdc, do not turn.—–32 hdc

Notes

1. In the following rounds do not miss the ch 1 after each cl. The last cl is also followed by a ch-1 at the end of the round.

2. Weave in the beginning tail now as it will get harder once your slipper grows.

Round 3: No need to make a beginning ch here. Pull up a loop in the next 2 sts, (YO, pull through 2 loops) twice, ch 1, repeat from * until you have 16 cls, do not sl st and do not turn.—–16 cls

Note: Between the post of 2 cls you will have 2 sts. If you have only 1 st, it means you missed the ch-1 after the cluster in the previous round.

Round 4: Pull up a loop in the same st as the last repeat you worked, pull up a loop in the next st, (YO, pull through 2 loops) twice, ch 1, place a marker in the cl you just made. Pull up a loop in the next 2 sts, (YO, pull through 2 loops) twice, ch 1, repeat from * until you have 16 cl counting from the marked cl. Do not sl st and do not turn.

Round 5: Pull up a loop in the next 2 sts, (YO, pull through 2 loops) twice, ch 1, move marker into the cl you just made, Pull up a loop in the next 2 sts, (YO, pull through 2 loops) twice, ch 1, repeat from * until you have 16 cls counting from the marked cl. Do not sl st and do not turn.

Repeat Round 5 until you have completed 14 (15, 16, 16) Rounds of cls not including the hdc rounds at the beginning. Counting the rounds can be tricky when you work in a spiral, so either write down the number of rounds you complete as you finish each round or count at the part at least 1″ before the marker as shown in pic 3 below. If you count the rounds at the point of the marker, it will show fewer rounds than you have actually completed.

3. Count before the marker

The toe top will be around 5 (5-1/4, 5-1/2, 5-1/2) inches tall when measured at the shortest part (see pic 4 below). Once you have the number of rounds specified, sl st to the next st, but do not fasten off.
