With Cream color (Vanilla color) yarn, ch 68. The starting chain is a multiple of 3+2.

Row 1: 1sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across to end, and turn.———67 sc

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and throughout), 2 hdc in the same st as ch 2, *[sk 2 sts, (1 sc, ch 2, 2 hdc) all into the next st], repeat from * until 3 sts left, sk 2 sts, 1 sc in last st, place a marker on this side of the fabric to indicate the WS and turn. ————22 projections or repeats

Row 3: Ch 2, 2 hdc in the same st as ch 2, *[sk next hdc, fpsc in next hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc in the adjacent ch-2 space], repeat from * and after 2 hdc in last ch-2 space, sk next 2 hdc, fpsc around beginning ch 2, turn.——– 22 projections or repeats

Repeat Row 3 for 7 more rows, but do not fasten off the cream color until we join the next color.

How to Join a New Color

To join a new color at the end of the row, start working your last fpsc around the beginning ch-2 and when you have 2 loops on your hook, YO and pull through the new color you would like to join. Then you can cut off the previous color.

Note: Each stripe is made of 9 rows of the pattern stitch. Only the beginning and ending cream-colored stripes have sc rows in addition to these 9 rows.

Row 11: Unravel the last fpsc of the cream stripe. Now, rework the fpsc while joining the next color, blue (Seafoam). Repeat Row 3 with the new color joined.

Rows 12 to 19: Repeat Row 3 and join the Beige color yarn while working the last st of the final row.

Rows 20 to 28: Repeat Row 3 with beige color yarn and join cream color yarn at the end of the last row.

Rows 29 to 37: Repeat Row 3 with cream color yarn and join blue color yarn at the end of the last row.

Rows 38 to 46: Repeat Row 3 with blue color and join the Beige color yarn while working the last st of the final row.

Rows 47 to 55: Repeat Row 3 with beige color yarn and join cream color yarn at the end of the last row.

Rows 56 to 64: Repeat Row 3 with cream color yarn but do not join another color. Turn.

Leveling Row: Continue with cream color, ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next ch 2 space, *(1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next hdc, 1 sc in next ch-2 space) repeat from * until you work a sc in the last ch-2 space, 1 sc in next 2 sts, 1 sc on top of beginning ch-2, turn.

Last Row: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st and each st across to end. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in the tails on the WS (Wrong side or back side of the blanket) where you placed the marker.
