Materials

1. Worsted weight (size 4) yarn which is on the thinner side. Caron Simply Soft yarn colors Plum Wine, Taupe, and Off White were used for the sample cardigans. 

2. H (5mm) hook

3. Tapestry needle to weave in the ends

4.  A pair of 5/8”(16mm) buttons

5. Sewing needle and thread to sew on the buttons

 

 

Finished Size 

This cardigan is meant to be worn over a sleeveless spring dress. The finished measurements are as follows:

0-3 months: 16-1/2 inches chest and 6-1/2 inches long

3-6 months: 18  inches chest and 7 inches long

6-12 months: 20 inches chest and 8 inches long

12-24 months:  21 inches chest and  9″ long

dc2tog: Worked just like the cl above, but across 2 sts or 2 points specified.

Note:

1. Make sure your cardigan is Right Side (RS) out. You had placed a marker to indicate the RS at the beginning of your work. 

 

2. The buttonhole band and button band are worked on the RS across the row ends of the front opening. The buttonhole band is worked on the left and the button band on the right.

 

 

Row 1: Ch 1 at the corner (counts as first sc), 2 sc right after the corner, evenly distribute sc sts along the edge, and work your way up to the neck, turn. 

 

Note: The ch 1 in the next row will form the buttonholes. If your buttons are bigger, you might have to ch-2 and sk 2 sts instead of 1. 

 

Row 2: Ch 1 (not counted as a st here), 1 sc in same st as ch 1,  ch 1 loosely, sk 1 st, 1 sc in next 3 sts, ch 1 loosely, sk 1 st, 1 sc in each remaining st across to end, turn.

 

 

Row 3: Ch 1 (not counted as a st here), 1 sc in same st as ch 1, 1 sc in each st across, when you reach the ch 1 work a sc into that as well, and continue working sc up to the neck, ch 1 at the corner of the neck, sl st along the neckline until you hit the other end of the neck, do not fasten off but continue to work the button band below.
