Dish rags are one of the easiest patterns to crochet. If you are teaching someone to crochet, this will make a great first project.
You can use any cotton yarn to make this dish rag. Use it to wash your dishes or in the shower.
Pair them with a dish soap bottle or handmade soap and you have a great gift. You can also add a handmade label to make it more fancy.
Dishcloths are reusable making them a great eco-friendly substitute for store-bought kitchen scrubbers. They can be thrown in the washer and will last you for a very long time.
I am sure you will enjoy whipping up a few of these easy dish rags.

Ch 24 loosely. You can use a bigger hook to make the foundation chain loosely and switch back to the 5mm hook for the rest of the pattern.
Row 1: Working into the back bumps of the foundation chain throughout, 1 sc in the 2nd ch from hook (sc, ch 2, sc)in the next ch, * sk next ch, (sc, ch 2, sc) into the next ch, repeat from * to last st, 1 sc in the last st, turn.———11 repeats
Pattern Notes
1. Your work will look curved after the first couple of rows. Just tug and straighten it for now. It will even out more once you work the border in the end.
2. You can easily identify the ch-2 spaces by looking at the peaks formed by the stitch pattern.
Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st as ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc)in each ch-2 space across, sk the next st, 1 sc in the last st, turn.———–11 repeats
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 hdc in the same st as ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc)in each ch-2 space across, sk the next st, 1 hdc in the last st, turn.———–11 repeats
Keep repeating Rows 2 and 3 until your dish rag is a square shape. You can fold the fabric diagonally to check if it is a square.
Next Row (If you ended with Row 2): Ch 1, 1 hdc in the same st as ch 1, 2 sc in each ch-2 space across, sk the next st, (2 hdc and 1 sc) in the last st. Do not turn.
Next Row (If you ended with Row 3): Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st as ch 1, 2 sc in each ch-2 space across, sk the next st, 3 sc in the last st. Do not turn.
Border
Continue to work along the left edge of your dish rag to even it out. You won’t have real stitches to work into, so distribute sc sts as evenly as possible until you reach the next corner, work 3 sc in the corner, continue along the foundation chain side, work 1 sc in each st across to the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, work up along the next edge and distribute sc sts evenly up to the next corner, 2 sc in the corner, sl st to the first st, fasten off.
Finishing
Weave in any tails left.
