  2. K (6.5mm)hook for the foundation chain and an H(5mm) hook for the rest of the dishcloth.
  3. Yarn needle to weave in the ends.

The finished dishcloth is 8-1/4 inches wide and 8-1/2 inches long.

The initial chain can be adjusted to make the dishcloth smaller or bigger.

Yardage

It takes around 65 yards of yarn to make one dishcloth.

Stitch Abbreviations

The pattern is written in standard US crochet terms.

Stitch Explanations

sc2tog: Insert your hook into the next ch-2 space and pull up a loop, insert your hook into the next st and pull up a loop, YO, and pull through all the 3 loops on your hook.

Gauge

Gauge is not crucial. Just start working your dishcloth from the pattern and if it seems too narrow, switch to the next size hook.

Pattern Note

A bigger hook is used only for the foundation chain.

With the bigger 6.5mm hook, Ch 25. You can chain any multiple of 3 + 1 to start.

Row 1: Switch to the smaller H(5mm) hook.  (1 dc, ch 2, sc) into the 4th ch from hook, * sk next 2 chs, (2 dc , ch 2, 1 sc) in next ch, repeat from * to end. Turn. (8 pattern repeats)

Note: In the next row, the sc of the last pattern repeat is not worked into the ch-2 space but into the top of the turning ch-3. This will make sure your dishcloth has a cleaner edge.

Row 2: Ch 3( counts as a dc here and throughout), (1 dc, ch 2, sc) into the first ch-2 space, (2dc, ch 2, sc) in each ch-2 space across until just one ch-2 space is left, (2dc, ch 2) in the last ch-2 space, 1 sc on top of beginning ch-3. Turn. (8 pattern repeats)

Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 14 Rows and work the leveling row below.

Leveling Row: Continue with your working yarn, ch 1, 1 sc in first st, sc2tog across next ch-2 space and next st, *(1 sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog across next ch-2 space and next st), repeat from * to end, (1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc) on top of beginning ch, pivot your work to start working border along the left edge of your dishcloth.
