This easy crochet baby blanket pattern is perfect for beginners. It works up in just 6 hours, how cool is that? It will be your best bet for any last minute baby shower gifts.
When I started out designing this blanket, I was planning on making a moss stitch chevron blanket. The further I got with it, the more I realized that it looks very similar to my 5-hour crochet blanket. So I gave it a spin and came up with this design.
Designing with chunky yarn is always a challenge because it lacks stitch definition. Can you imagine how big a bobble would look in this yarn? So I made fake bobbles which are ridiculously simple to make and looks great on this yarn. The result? An easy peasy crochet baby blanket!
The base stitch used for this easy chunky crochet baby blanket is the Knit-look Herringbone half double crochet. I have included a video on how to work this stitch at the end of the blog post.
I am in love with the coral and blue combination. Do you like it? What colors will you choose for this blanket? Let me know in the comments below.

Easy Beginner Crochet Baby Blanket
With color Coral Blossom and the 10mm hook, ch 53. You can chain any odd number of chains to start if you wish to make your blanket wider than 32 inches. Please note that you will need more yarn to make your blanket bigger.
Row 1: 1 hhdc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch across. Turn.——–51 hhdc
Rows 2: Ch 2 ( counts as a hhdc here and throughout), 1 hhdc in next st and each st across to end. Turn.——–51 hhdc
Note
1. For the fake bobble rows, the turning ch 1 does not count as a sc throughout the pattern.

Note: In the next Row the fake bobbles will form at the back of your work.

Would this pattern be successful with a F/5 hook and fine yarn? The same look in miniature? I would use the pattern to make a much larger blanket (at least twin size) in a cotton/acrylic blend yarn, and like to have a firm-ish feel. I am a semi-beginner and tend to make up my own designs once I find a simple stitch I like.

had to revise the pattern due to the pulling the bobble row puking through and staying. I had to keep going back and puffing it up. Needless to say frustrating. I took about 4 rows out and went from there

Hey! I have a question about this pattern. When doing the three rows of the blue and coral does the chain 2 at the beginning count as a hhdc like the 4th row does?

Yes, it does count as a hhdc.

Hello,
Semi new crocheter here - have only worked on single color baby beanies and hats, but thought now a good time to expand!
I love this pattern - one question, may be a silly question, but when switching colors, I have seen a couple different ways to change colors and one included working in the tail ends into the next crochet row. Do you think this would alter the appearance of the blanket if I did this, instead of waiting until the end to weave in the ends?
Thanks!

Hi Karley, I'm afraid it might show through your work. Why not try on one tail and see how you like it?
