Gauge
Pattern for Gauge Swatch
Chain 38 and follow rows 1 to 3 of the pattern. Keep repeating Row 3 until your piece measures 6 inches. Then measure for gauge.
Gauge
Using J(6mm) Hook,
6 Bumps = 7 inches long.

Note: Stitch counts for bigger sizes are given in the order S/M (L/XL, 2XL/3XL)
Left Side of Poncho
Note: The left side of the poncho is worked as a long rectangle. The right side is then worked as an extension of this long rectangle to form an L-shape.
Ch 102(114, 126). Starting chain is a multiple of 4+2.
Row 1: 1sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across to end.———101(113, 125)sts
Row 2: Ch 3(counts as first dc here and throughout), 2 dc in the same st as ch 3, *[sk 3 sts, (1sc, ch 3, 3dc) all into the next st], repeat from * until 4 sts left, sk 3 sts, 1 sc in last st, turn. ————25(28, 31) projections or repeats
Note: Once you work the fpsc, your ch-3 loop will get pushed behind. So look behind the fpsc to find the ch-3 loop adjacent to it. See pic 1 above.
Row 3 (see pic 2 above): Ch 3, 2 dc in the same st as ch 3, *[sk 2 dc, fpsc in next dc, ch 3, 3 dc in the adjacent ch-3 space], repeat from * and after 3 dc in last ch-3 space, sk next 2 dc, fpsc around beginning ch 3, turn.——– 25(28, 31) projections or repeats
Your work should measure 28(32, 36) inches long. Repeat Row 3 until your work measures 16(18, 21) inches wide. Do not fasten off.
Extension
Place a marker in the 14th (16th, 19th) projection from where your hook is right now. It will be 16, (18, 21)” away from the edge.
Row 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in the same st as ch 3, *[sk 2 dc, fpsc in next dc, ch 3, 3 dc in the adjacent ch-3 space], repeat from * until you work 3 dc in the ch-3 space right before the marked repeat, sk next 2 dc, fpsc around 3rd dc of the marked repeat, turn.——– 14(16, 19) projections or repeats
Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in the same st as ch 3, *[sk 2 dc, fpsc in next dc, ch 3, 3 dc in the adjacent ch-3 space], repeat from * and after 3 dc in last ch-3 space, sk next 2 dc, fpsc around beginning ch 3, turn.——–14 (16, 19) projections or repeats
Keep repeating the above row until you have a total of 58 (66, 74)rows and the extension measures 28 (32, 36)” long from the left panel. Do not fasten off.
Seaming the Poncho
Place a marker 16(18, 21) inches away from the top corner of the extension as shown in pic 3 above. The wrong side(WS) of the fabric should be facing up. The wrong side is the side on which you worked your very last row of the extension.
Now bring down the top edge to join the extension, match point A to point A and point B to point B, sc it together (see pic 4 above). Confused? Place the same color markers at the 2 points marked A. Place another pair of a different color markers at points marked B. Bring down your fabric to match the same color markers and sc the sides together between the markers. Take care not to stretch the fabric while you seam. Do not fasten off.
Finishing the Neck
Note: Your yarn will now be at the neck hole. In Row 1 below, you will work a leveling row along the serrated edge of the neck hole as shown in pic 5 above.
Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 hdc in next 3 dc sts, 1 dc in the next sc, *(sk next 3 chs, 1 hdc in next 3 dc sts, 1 dc in the next sc), repeat from * to the end of the serrated side, count your sts so far. On the second half of the neckline, distribute enough sc sts to get a total of 88( 104, 112) sts, sl st to the first st, turn. ———-88( 104, 112) sts around.
For a V-neck poncho, you can fasten off now and weave in the ends at the neck. Jump to Sleeves below if you would like to add sleeves to your V-neck poncho.
Continue for Turtleneck
Note: For all sizes, first place a marker in the mid-back and mid-front of the V-neck as shown in pic 6 above.
Size S/M Only
Round 2: Ch 2( does not count as a st), dc2tog in same st as ch 2 and next st, 1 dc in each st across until 2 sts left before the marker, dc2tog, dc2tog again, 1 dc in each st across until 2 sts are left before the next marker, dc2tog in last 2 sts, sl st to first dc2tog, do not turn.——–84 sts
Note: For Round 3, dc2tog counts as a single st, so when your work a fpdc into it, make sure you insert your hook under the combined post.
Round 3: Ch 1(not counted as a st), *(1 fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st), repeat from * to end, sl st to first fpdc, do not turn.——84 sts

Note: In the next round, you will work a total of 12 dc2tog. There should be one on each side of the marker, the remaining 8 can be distributed as evenly as possible. If your stitch distribution doesn’t match mine due to the way you worked your first leveling round of hdc, you can just eyeball and distribute the remaining 8 dc2tog. The only rule is you should have dc2tog on each side of the markers to round out the V of the neck.
Round 2: Ch 2( does not count as a st), dc2tog across same st as ch 2 and next st, *(1 dc in next 10 sts, dc2tog), repeat from * until 2 sts left to the marker, dc2tog, dc2tog again, *(1 dc in next 10 sts, dc2tog), repeat from * until 2 sts left to the next marker, dc2tog in last 2 sts, sl st to first dc2tog. ——-92 sts
Note: For Round 3, dc2tog counts as a single st, so when your work a fpdc into it, make sure you insert your hook under the combined post.
Round 3: Ch 1(not counted as a st), *(1 fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st), repeat from * to end, sl st to first fpdc, do not turn.——92 sts
Round 4: Ch 2( counts as a bpdc), fpdc in next fpdc, *(bpdc in next bpdc, fpdc in next fpdc), repeat from * to end, sl st to beg ch-2, do not turn. —–92 st

The only rule is you should have dc2tog on each side of the markers to round out the V of the neck.
Note: For Round 3, dc2tog counts as a single st, so when your work a fpdc into it, make sure you insert your hook under the combined post.
Round 3: Ch 1(not counted as a st), *(1 fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st), repeat from * to end, sl st to first fpdc, do not turn.—–100 sts

Keep repeating Round 4 until your neck is 6-1/4 inches tall. Fasten off.
Sleeves- for all Sizes
Turn your poncho right side out. Your seam should now be inside. Fold your poncho aligning the sides and the bottom. Place a marker 5.5 (6, 6.5)” away from the fold going through both the layers as shown in pic 7 above.
Round 1: Sl st to the marked point going through both the layers, ch 2 (not counted as a st), 1 dc through both the layers, work 39(43, 47) dc sts across, sl st to first dc, do not turn.——–40 (44, 48) sts around

Leveling the Back Edge
There is one serrated edge on the backside of the poncho. To level it out, follow the pattern below.
Leveling Row: Sl st to the beginning of the serrated edge, ch 1 if you are on top of a dc and ch 2 if you are on top of a sc in the valley, *(1 hdc in each dc and 1 hdc in each sc across skipping the chain 3 between them), repeat from * to the end of the serrated side. Fasten off.

Im so excited to finish the poncho! Its a beautiful stitch! Im confused on round 1 of finishing the serrated neck edge. It says to space stitches evenly over the second half of the neck to add up to 88 stitches total. What kind of stitches? Thanks for your help, im trying to finish for Christmas.
