Pattern Notes

1. For the sake of convenience, we will call the colors Cream and Aqua.

2. To join a new color at the end of a row, start working your hdc st as usual, and when you have 3 loops left on your hook, yarn over and pull through the new color. Make the beginning chain in the new color.

3. Fasten off after each color change.

With Aqua color yarn, ch 68. You can chain any multiple of 5 + 3 if you want to make your blanket wider.

Row 1: (3 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) into 5th ch from hook (skipped 4 chs count as a 1 hdc+ch 2), *sk 4 chs, (3 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) all into the next ch, repeat from * until you have 3 chs left, sk 2 chs, 1 hdc in the last ch, turn. —–13 Repeats

Row 2:  Ch 2 (count as 1 hdc ), *(3 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) all into the next ch-2 space,  repeat from * until you have worked into the last ch-2 space, sk the next 3 hdc sts, end with 1 hdc into the top of beginning ch-4 (into the 4th ch that we skipped on row 1), turn. —–13 Repeats

Row 3: Ch 2 (count as 1 hdc ), *(3 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) all into the next ch-2 space,  repeat from * until you have worked into the last ch-2 space, sk the next 3 hdc sts,  end with 1 hdc into the top of beginning ch-2, turn. —–13 Repeats

Repeat Row 3 two more times and when you are working your last hdc of the 5th Row, join the Cream color yarn. Fasten off the Aqua color.

Row 6 to 10: Repeat Row 3 with Cream color yarn and join the Aqua color yarn at the end of Row 10.

Row 11 to 15: Repeat Row 3 with Aqua color yarn and join the Cream color yarn at the end of Row 15.

Keep repeating Row 3 changing colors every 5 rows until you have 7 stripes.

Last Row: Ch 1, and turn, 1 hdc in first st, *(2sc in next ch-2 space, 1 sc in next 2 hdc sts) repeat from * to beg ch-2, 1 hdc on top of beg ch-2, fasten off.

Adding a Row on the Foundation Chain Side

Note: Work this row on the same side of the fabric as your last row with Aqua color yarn.

Sl st to the corner of the foundation chain edge where there is no tail, 2 sc in adjacent space, *(1 sc in tiny space under next repeat, 3 sc in the big space under ch-4), repeat from * until you work a sc in the tiny space under the last repeat, 2 sc in the last big space,1 sc in the corner, fasten off.

Border

Notes

1. Work the border on the Right side of the blanket, the side where you worked the last row.

2. You can work the first row of the border over the yarn tails to hide them, but where there are more than 2 tails or the tail is showing through your work, leave the tail and weave it in later after you finish the border.

Round 1: With cream color yarn, sl st to the right corner of the last row, 1 sc in the same corner, 1 sc in each st across to the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, distribute sc sts along the side of the rows as evenly as possible until you reach the next corner. I worked 8 sc across each stripe. While working across the row ends, work inserting your hook into the chains or sts and not into the spaces underneath them.

3 sc in the corner, 1 sc in each st across to the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, now distribute sc sts along the side of the rows as evenly as possible until you reach the corner where you started, 2 sc in the corner, sl st to beginning ch-1, do not turn.

Round 2: Ch 1, *( 1 sc in FLO of the next st, 1 sc in the BLO of next st), repeat from * to next corner, 3 sc in the corner. Repeat the same on all sides working sc alternately in FLO and BLO and putting 3 sc in the corners, once you reach the corner where you started, 3 sc in the corner, sl st to beginning ch-1. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in any tails left.
