Easy Crochet Scarf Pattern, Diamond in the Rough Scarf
Easy Scarf Crochet Pattern- make in just one and a half hours!

This simple crochet scarf is a simple one-row repeat after you get past the first two rows. This will make a great project for last-minute gifts.
The stitch looks a little like the bean stitch but is far easier to work. It also has the much-needed drape for a scarf as opposed to the dense fabric of the bean stitch.
I really love this stitch and want to design a matching hat for this scarf. Maybe I should add a pair of fingerless mittens to complete the set. What do you think?
The original pattern was written for chunky yarn but I figured a lot of people would love it in worsted weight yarn too. So I am including that option as well.
Easy Crochet Scarf Pattern- Chunky
Materials
1. Cozy Wool yarn from Loops and Threads in color Harvest and Fleece was used to design this easy crochet scarf pattern. It is a size 6, super bulky yarn but has far more drape than other commonly available yarns of the same weight.
2. A 9mm hook. You might have to use a bigger hook if your scarf doesn’t turn out 6 inches wide.
3. Tapestry needle to weave in the ends.
Finished Sizes
4 to 5 Years – 5 inches wide and 40 inches long
6 to 10 Years– 6 inches wide and 60 inches long
Woman– 6 inches wide and 76 inches long

4 to 5 Years– 2 skeins of Cozy Wool yarn or 150 yards

Adult– 3 skeins of Cozy Wool yarn or 270 yards.

SHD(single half double decrease)-Insert your hook into the next st and pull up a loop, YO, and pull up a loop in the next st, YO, and pull through all the 4 loops on your hook to complete your SHD. It is like single crochet and a half double crochet stitch joined together.
Gauge
Start working the scarf and if after a few rows, it is not the width you want, switch to a bigger hook.

Pattern Notes
Stitch counts for bigger sizes are given in brackets in the order 4-5 Years (6 to 10 Years, Adult)
Ch 11(13, 13). You can chain any multiple of 2+1 to adjust the width of the scarf to your liking.
Row 1: SHD across 3rd and 4th ch from hook, *(ch 1, SHD over next 2 ch), repeat from * across to last ch, ch 1, 1 sc in last ch, turn. See Stitch Explanation above to learn how to work an SHD. ——4 (5, 5)SHD and 1 sc st
Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st here and throughout), SHD over first sc and next ch-1 space, *(ch 1, SHD over next SHD, and next ch-1 space), repeat from * across to last SHD, ch 1, sk last SHD, sc on top of skipped ch 2, turn. ——4 (5, 5)SHD and 1 sc st
Row 3: Ch 2, SHD over first sc and next ch-1 space, *(ch 1, SHD over next SHD, and next ch-1 space), repeat from * across to last SHD, ch 1, sk last SHD, sc on top of beginning ch 2, turn. ——4 (5, 5)SHD and 1 sc st
Keep repeating row 3 until your scarf is 40(55, 76) inches long. See how to join a new skein of yarn below.
If you want to customize the size of your scarf, a good rule of thumb is to make it as long as the height of the person.
How to join a new skein of yarn
Joining a new skein while working your last sc: Start working the sc as usual and when you have 2 loops left on your hook, YO and pull through the new skein of yarn.
Joining a new skein while working an SHD: Start the SHD as usual and once you have 4 loops on your hook, YO and pull through the new skein of yarn.
Finishing
Weave in any tails left.
Easy Scarf Pattern- Worsted Weight Version
Choose to make the scarf in a solid worsted weight yarn or use a lovely self-striping yarn for a completely different look.
Materials
1. Big Twist Soft yarn in color Rose
2. K(6.5mm) hook
3. Tapestry needle to weave in the ends.
Finished Sizes
4 to 5 Years – 5 inches wide and 40 inches long
6 to 10 Years– 6 inches wide and 60 inches long
Woman– 6 inches wide and 76 inches long
Yardage
4 to 5 Years– 1 skein of Big Twist Soft yarn or 230 yards
6 to 10 Years– 1 skein of Big Twist Soft yarn or 320 yards
Adult– 2 skein of Big Twist Soft yarn or 420 yards
Crochet Pattern
To make this same scarf in a worsted weight yarn, ch 17 (21, 21) and follow the same pattern for the chunky scarf above using a K(6.5mm) hook. Your stitch count at the end of the rows will be 8(9, 9)SHD+1 sc st
Adding Fringes
Note– I added fringes to the worsted weight version as a finishing touch. You should factor in the length of your fringe while deciding on the final length of your scarf.
Wrap the yarn multiple times around a small book. Cut along one edge to get yarn strands of equal length.
Take 2 strands at a time, fold the middle, pull the fold through the edge of the scarf, grab all 4 strands with your hook and pull through the loop formed. Repeat to attach more fringes along the base of the scarf.
