3. The color is changed at the end of Rows 3 and 5. To add a new color seamlessly, start working your last hdc as usual, but when you have 3 loops on your hook, pull through the new color yarn to complete your hdc.

Keep repeating Rows 4 and 5 changing colors at the end of Row 5 every time. Starting from the very first cream stripe, the color sequence is cream, beige, cream, blue, cream, lemon, cream, beige, and so on. Make a total of 21 stripes. You last stripe will be a cream one. Do not fasten off.
Border
Border notes
1. Due to the nature of the stitch, the edges where you work your first and last rows can be wider than the rest of the blanket. So we will add decreases along these 2 edges in the first round.
2. We will also add more decreases along all 4 edges in Round 2 to straighten them out. I have provided the math for adding decreases, but feel free to add more or less decreases based on how your edges turned out. Just try to distribute decreases evenly as far as possible. It might take a little bit of trial and error to nail it.
Round 1
Ch 1 at the corner, continue along the left edge of the blanket and work 3 sc across each stripe end. Work over yarn tails as far as possible to hide them, but do not work over more than 2 tails at a time. Work 3 sc in the corner.
*(1 sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog across next 2 sts), repeat from * to next corner, 3 sc in corner, 3 sc across each stripe end until the next corner, 3 sc in the corner.
Working along the last row, *(1 sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog), repeat from * until 1 st is left, 2 sc in last st, sl st to 1st sc on left side. Do not turn.
Round 2
Ch 1, 1 sc across each st, adding a sc2tog at any point where there is a bump to straighten it out.
3 sc in the corner, *(1 sc in next 10 sts, sc2tog across next 2 sts), repeat from * to last st, 1 sc in last st, 3 sc in corner, *(1 sc in next 10 sts, sc2tog across next 2 sts), repeat from * to last 3 sts, 1 sc in each st to corner, 3 sc in corner st, *(1 sc in next 13 sts, sc2tog across next 2 sts), repeat from * to last 4 sts, 1 sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, sl st to 1st sc. Fasten off.
Finishing
Weave in any tails left along the WS (non-textured side) of the blanket.
