Materials

1. Lionbrand 24/7 Cotton yarn in color Taupe for the primary color. It is a size 4, medium weight 100% cotton yarn. 

2. Lionbrand 24/7 Cotton yarn in Aqua and Lemon for the border. 

3. G (4mm) hook

4. Tapestry needle to weave in the ends. 

 

 

Finished Size

The finished dishcloth is a square that measures 8-1/4 inches on each side. 

 

 

Yardage

80 yards of the main color and 30 yards of the accent color.

Stitch Explanations

Spike sc (spike sc): The spike single crochet is a variation of the traditional single crochet stitch, where you insert your hook into a lower row. Work it as follows:

Insert your hook under the sc of the previous row, pull up a loop, YO, and pull through the 2 loops on your hook to complete a spike sc. You will find a gap under the stitch where you can easily insert your hook. See pic below.

Ch 27. You can chain any odd number to adjust the size of your crochet dishcloth. 

 

Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across to end, turn. (26 sc)

 

Row 2: Ch 1 (counts as a sc), sk the first st at the base of the beginning ch, 1 sc in next st, * (1 spike sc in next st, 1 sc in next st), repeat from * to end. (12 spike sc+ 14 sc)

Row 3: Ch 1, sk the first st at the base of the beginning ch, 1 sc in next spike st, 1 spike sc in next st, * (1 sc in next spike st, 1 spike sc in next st ), repeat from * to beginning ch-1, 1 sc in beginning ch-1, turn. (12 spike sc+ 14 sc) 

 

Repeat Row 3 until your dishcloth is a square, and fasten off.

 

 

Crochet Dishcloth Border

Pattern Notes

1. The border is worked using the accent colors Aqua or Lemon.

2. All the 3 rounds of the border are worked on the same side of the crochet fabric without turning your work. 

3. Work over the yarn tails to weave them in while crocheting the first round of the border.

 

 

Round 1: Starting at the point of fastening off,  sl st to the last st with the new color, 2 sc in the same st, distribute sc sts evenly along the left edge of the dishcloth until you reach the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, 1 sc in each free loop of the foundation ch until you reach the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, distribute sc sts evenly along the next edge until you reach the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, 1 sc in each st of the last row, sl st to the first sc of the round, do not turn and do not fasten off. 

 

 

Round 2: Ch 1,  2 sc in the same st as ch 1, 1 sc in each st along the left edge until you reach the next corner, 3 sc in the corner, * (1 sc in each st across the next side until you reach the next corner, 3 sc in the corner), repeat from * 1 more time, 1 sc in each st across on the last side, sl st to first sc, do not turn and do not fasten off. 

 

 

Round 3: Ch 1, (1 sc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in the same st as ch 1, *[skip 2 sts, (1 sc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in next st], repeat from *  to end, and if you have only 1 st at the end, sk that last st and sl st to the base of the first repeat, fasten off.

 

If you have 2 sts left at the end, sk the last 2 sts and sl st to the base of the first repeat, and fasten off. If you have 3 sts left, unravel the previous repeat, sk 3 sts st, and work (1 sc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in the next st, then sk the last 2 sts and sl st to the base of the first repeat.
